XL ISP in Kuta Bali

Bali has many options for home internet connection these days. The old dial up has pretty much gone out of the window, for most people with Telkom introducing DSL several months ago. Today I visited XL located on the Sunset Rd in Kuta.

While Telkom require you to have a phone line installed in your house, XL (also a phone provider) has another method, which involves installing a piece of equipment the size of about 10 playing cards. For 1.9m rp I could buy this piece of gear and for a package of 299,000rp per month for the cheapest deal, or 499,000rp per month for the higher end deal, be online. Staff told me that a 3G cellphone could be substitued for the extra hardware. When I showed her my phone (4 years old, falling apart, cost 350,000rp) she looked dissappointed. Rather than paying the 1.9m rp I will buy a new phone on my next trip to Singapore and kill 2 birds with one stone. Another expat recommend XL to me so I’m confident it could be a good thing .

Other solutions for home internet access include Blueline, which uses an antenna mounted on your roof and Global Xtreme, which uses something similar and is capable of connecting even up to Batukaru in the highlands.
