Art & Music in Seminyak Bali

Aside from sitting in my room typing, the only other thing I do each day is go for a walk. Wanting to add a few more dimensions to my life I recently bought a pad of drawing paper and a selection of pencils. The upstairs section of Bintang supermarket stocks many type of paper books, pens and pencils. I was impressed actually, not expecting them to have anything other than the old HB, but no, they had the whole range!

A clipboard was also on the list and for arond 20,000rp I’m set to go drawing. Looking at some of the stuff other people have drawn I kind of like the impressionist style, low on detail and high on atmosphere. Miguel Covarrubias had a very simple drawing style in Island Of Bali, he used a few simple lines to catch an image. This style would be great to learn as a a person could knock out a drawing before the scene changed. Anyway I will start with things that don’t move before I go on to people.
My other creative idea was to take guitar lessons. I have a guitar and know the chords to 1 song (Sweet Melissa by the Allman Brothers). Basically I’m a beginner with no inate musical talent. The manager of JP’s Warung on Jl. Dhyana Pura told me she would ask some of the local muso’s if they were avaialble once in a while. Maybe by this time next year I’ll be able to play Waltzing Matilda.
