Protests greet anti-pornography legislators in Bali

Large protests at Ngurah Rai airport in Bali and at Puputan Square in Denpasar greeted the arrival of 8 anti-pornography legislators. The whole event was a kind of carnival, with ordinary Balinese from all walks of life attending.

People sometimes talk about Islam colliding with the west, when actually its just the extreme parts of each group colliding. Maybe there is a touch of that here, but judging by some of the comments, Balinese people are pissed. Said event organizer Cok Sawitri “Balinese arts and religious beliefs have never considered sensuality and sexuality as an impure, morally reprehensible thing. Instead, sensuality and sexuality are treated as natural, integral parts of our lives as human being.”

The Jakarta Post has more on the event.
