Michael Czugaj sentencing demands delayed in Denpasar Bali

Denpasar court today was not super busy, but the tensions for 2 young men were obvious. Michael Czugaj, only 20 from Brisbane and Myuran Sukumaran from Sydney are nearing the latter parts of their trials. Both are accused of conspiracy to traffic narcotics from Bali to Australia.

Today was menat to be the day when the first memeber of the Bali Nine, drug mule Michael Czugaj, was to learn the prosecution’s sentencing request for him. The sentencing request is not binding, but is a good indication of what may be the outcome. The significance of this sentencing request, is that as a junior member of the Bali Nine, his sentence will be a yardstick for the rest.
If I was in Michael’s shoes I’d be sweating. If I was the other guy on trial today, Bali Nine ‘enforcer’ Myuran Sukumaran, I’d be doing something else as well as sweating. He is considered one of the leaders of the Bali Nine and could get the death sentence if found guilty.
What ended up happening was the sentencing request was postponed till Friday as only 1 of the 3 judges showed up.
I tell you, ‘Aussie’s in Bali jail’ is better than any soap opera. First there was Schapple Corby, with the tears and the ensemble of relatives, then came lovely Michelle Leslie, who went from lingerie to headscarf in one easy movement, and finally the Bali Nine, who like an NA class on steroids, have grabbed the limelight.
Bali prosecutors need more time to prepare their recommnedations to the panel of judges. Friday will be the day we find out what they came up with.
