Photo of the Day: Gunung Kawi

The sacred site of Gunung Kawi in Central Bali is one of my favourite places on the island. Although it is a very steep descent into the valley, the sheer pleasure of what you see is overwhelming. Dating back to the 11th century, the numerous ‘candi’ to be found are the tombs of King Anak Wungsu and his queens. Gunung Kawi is approximately 18 kilometres north east of Ubud. There is an entrance fee and wearing a sarong and sash are mandatory.
