Register your cell phone in Bali

Pre-paid cell phones must be ‘registered’ by April 28th or the provider will block your number.

The cell phone system here in Bali is very good, you buy a cheap phone, get a SIM card, buy pulsa and off you go. You only get charged for the calls / SMS’s you make and if you run out of pulsa, you can still receive calls. The Indo government wants more control of the whole thing and is forcing people to give their details, or be shut off the system.

Ika has registered her phone and its a 7 step process. You call up, answer a question, them they call you back. Most people will give false details, (Name, address etc. ) and I will get Ika to call them up, and tell them a load of bollocks tomorrow. Last thing I need, is more Indo government officials knowing anything about me.

Presumably terrorism is one of the reasons they are doing this, with JI using cell phones to execute their attacks. If the government is serious about that they should insist GPS’s are built into each cell phone, then they’ll be able to track the buggers. You think Amrozi is going to tell you where he lives?

For those who haven’t registered, here’s some info.
