Indonesian government to crack down on child smuggling

If there is one thing Indonesia is good at producing, its people. There have been instances of child smuggling where Indonesian suppliers provide babies for couple in Singapore and other places. On the face of it, baby smuggling sounds despicable, but you have to think that someone who is willing to pay a high price for a child, is going to do everything they can to give that child a good life. Would you rather be one of 10 kids living in the ghetto, or a single kid attending university in Singapore? Of course its not that simple and a recent case that went wrong was a young kid adopted by an Irish couple, only to be sent back to Indonesia after 2 years.

Social Affairs Ministry, subdirectorate for children head, Afrinaldi, said the Indonesian government must be able to check the welfare of Indonesian babies adopted overseas. How this gets done he didn’t elaborate on. He also said “Who knows the fate of the other children? It is possible that they adopted the children because they wanted to take the children’s organs to replace their own or their relatives?” Okay so Afrinaldi has watched The Island.

Here in Bali there are not many handicapped kids. The reason is that when a handicapped kid is born, he/she is drowned soon after and cremated, no questions asked. You can make up your own mind about that practice, but Balinese are quite practical when it comes to that kind of stuff.
