Birds in cages in Celuk Bali

Right up the road from Batubulan lies the town of Celuk. You can pick up your garden ornaments in Batubulan and cruise to Celuk for something more delicate in th silver department. Celuk is a mile of silver jewelry shops, all lined next to each other along the street. Go down any of the small alleys behind the more fancy shops, and you will see small workshops were people are busy making silver jewelry.

The thing that caught my eye was an array of bird cages. Stopping at a jewelry place and walking back, I check them out, trying to get a shot of a bird, minus the bars of the cage. My photos weren’t any good, but I liked checking out the birds. The range sold all seemed fairly small and ranged in color from black, to grey, to yellow. Twenty meters along from there I stopped into a local snack shop for a Pocari Sweat and a hard boiled egg. Total price 5,000rp. Am old lady was getting into her bowl of es campur (mixed ice with milk, sugar and an assortment of other jelly items). I wished her ‘salamat makan’ to which she nodded.
