Courtyard Hotel & Apartments – Legian, Bali, Indonesia

Courtyard Hotel & Apartments –
, Bali, Indonesia

Located on Jl. Pura Bagus Teruna (Rum Jungle Rd.) halfway between Jl. Legian and Hotel Jayakarta. From the aiprot it will take you 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Kuta is a 5 minutes taxi ride south as is Seminyak to the north. The beach is a 5 minute walk.

The hotel has been open 4 years and has a new appearance. Arriving at the front there is a very small parking area, with the reception immediately to the left. Ceilings are impressively high and the whole front area is very open.

To the right of the lobby is the Hot Mango Restaurant & Bar which is open from 7am to 12am. Tables are overlooking the central swimming pool area surround by the 3-storey rooms. I checked the menu which looked quite tasty. Fried Crab Dumpling and Asian Salad was 36,000rp, Steamed Fish Fillet with Mashed Potatoes and Hollandaise Sauce 40,000rp

From the outside the rooms look new, with limestone blocks on the ground floors as walls and a cream color scheme on the upper floors.

Rooms are in 3 blocks, to the left and right of the swimming pool area and at the back. All rooms facing the pool area.

The immediate look and feel of the hotel is set by the lobby area and the Hot Mango Restaurant & Bar. I observed a minimalist style with high ceilings, a grey stone floor, cream colored walls, hanging ceiling fans and long hanging lights. Tables were made of dark wood with dark wicker chairs all adding to a cool classy feel.

The lobby are decoration were completed by large Java flower pots and a flowing water stone.

The pool area is surrounded by a wide wooden deck, the rectangular pool on the right, the shallow pool on the left. I found the pool water a refreshing aqua marine rather than the bright blue that is common. Half a dozen recliners and 3 sun shades were arranged at poolside.

The atmosphere is relaxed and walking in I felt I was still out in the open. Clean lines and color scheme help to promote a bright and airy feel.

No manager was available but the receptionist was very helpful.

Located on Jl. Pura Bagus Teruna (Rum Jungle Rd.) halfway between Jl. Legian and Hotel Jayakarta. From the airport it will take you 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Kuta is a 5 minutes taxi ride south as is Seminyak to the north. The beach is a 5 minute walk.

This place is very handy for access to the shopping, restaurants and bars in the area As well as the beach. Legian its has plenty of this kind of stuff going on.

The atmosphere is fairly relaxed and modern. No big reception area, everything is pretty low-key. The place is modern and stylish though and does have a different atmosphere to the budget hotels in the area. I saw some trendy gentlemen about to leave and solo Europeans by the pool. This is not a budget family place by design.

What makes this place unique:
This hotel is unique because it offers super a location, right in the heart of Legian. A 5 minute taxi will get you to Kuta or Seminyak and a 5 minute walk will get you to the beach. There are many older budget hotels in this area that do not seem so special anymore. The Courtyard is fairly new with a very modern stylish design.

Staff Friendliness:
The Mango Bar has young staff who were playing around. No manager was on-site and the receptionist was helpful.

Why would you stay here:
I would stay here if I wanted great access to Kuta, Legian and Seminyak with the beach within walking distance. If I wanted a modern trendy place with good rooms, but not stay in a resort hotel, then this place would work. Good for couples.

Why would you stay somewhere else:
If I wanted more facilities like a larger pool, more extensive restaurant, gym, spa etc. I would go for a larger hotel. This hotel has a small trendy feel so might not be the best place for kids.

Located right in the center of busy Legian might be too much for people seeking a more idyllic Bali vision.

Proximity to the action:
The Courtyard is right in the middle of the action. The immediate area is loaded with bars and restaurants. Kuta is close by as is the nightlife of Jl. Dhyana Pura and restaurants of Jl. Oberoi to the north.

The hotel has a laundry service, restaurant and bar, room service, swimming pool, baby sitting, airport transfer and massage.

How do the rooms feel:
The rooms feel large and airy. Simple design and color scheme exaggerate the feeling of space. There is very little Balinese design or styling.

All rooms have A/C, satellite TV, telephone, coffee and tea maker, safe, mini-bar, hair dryer, bath or shower, hot water.

Noise levels:
Rum Jungle is a one way street leading to the beach from Jl. Legian. It receives a constant flow of traffic and that could be annoying to people trying to relax in the restaurant or pool.
