Surf Report 08/18/2003

Today we have a decrease in swell size with a light offshore fanning a small 2 to 3 feet swell.

The Beachbreaks in the Legian area notably the Pad Ma stretch had a few small rip banks working on the high tide, but the crowds very thick.
Out on the Bukit the wave height was in the 2 to 3 feet range with not a lot to report on the waves very inconsistent and not a lot of power.
Yesterday we had the third round of the Quicksilver Open held at Halfway on Kuta beach, this contest under the guidance of Tipi Jabrik has to be one of the best run contests i have ever seen the level of surfing as good as any surfing anywhere in the world. The vibe on the beach and the enthusiasium showed by competitors contest staff and judges was just unbeleivable and just goes to show how strong surfing has become in Bali. The third round winner was Rizal Tanjung who showed the crowd he is still one of the best surfers in Indonesia.
But it was local surfer Made Adi Putra who was crowned the number 1 surfer in Bali after winning the first two rounds and placing highly in the third round with a fast and powerful display of new age ripping .
Once again this is Paul Callahan reporting on behalf of Byron Bay Surfboards in Bali Indonesia.

Hi Paul.Kellie here from Australian Indonesian Arts Alliance. Based in Byron Bay and doing a 2hr show on Bay FM
Wondering if you’ll allow me to occasionally use some of your surf reports on our show SWARA Indonesia.
Thought some of the local surfers
travellers & the Indonesian community
in Byron might appreciate the report.
Please email me. Regards Kellie
