There are few surf schools now in Bali. But the first one that’s officially established is the one that located in the Sunset beach legian. This place called Sunset beach, because there is a restaurant name Sunset, that used to be the only restaurant there in the mid 80’s. Untill now, this little humble place still is one of the fav hang out spot for expats and local.
The school of surf was established in the 98, it’s the idea of surf guru Cheyne Horan and a local guy named Wawan. It’s one brilliant idea and at the right time, as Bali was one of the major surf destinations. Since then, many other surf schools opened up.
The location of this school is now just behind the Sunset restaurant, and the student then will be taken to the beach for dry practice on the sand, before finally go for the real one on the water.

Hey Sean ……. i didn’t really notice how quick to download these pictures this time. But it’s quiet fast. Should I adjust the pics to smaller size ?
No - I love the big ones - I was just wondering…if they download fast that is great…your picture(s) are so much larger and detailed than Nicks…just comparing.
Keep it up…I love ‘em.
Hi Ebong,
nice story. Do they have those big boards that are hard to maneuver but easy to learn, or maybe specifically built for learning? Last week I was in Kuta, saw a surf learning joint in HRH. They have those really big boards. I’m from Jakarta and some years ago tried to learn surfing at kuta, but they used the short ones, i guess it’s for pros. I didn’t get a chance to stand up even a second. So this guy in HRH said of course u can’t do it, you must begin with these big ‘aircraft carriers’ (that’s what those in windsurfing call them). So Ebong, does the sunset beach school have these big or long boards? How much is the cost in learning to surf?

ebong how about posting some pics of the waves
In June 2006 a new surf school is opening at Dreamland on the bukit, with instruction by local balinese surfers.
Nice one ebong - I like your pictures from my high speed connection in Portland, Oregon…how quick do they download over there in Bali?
Also, ebong, Chris is coming over this saturday for a week or so on his way to Oz…if you have some time, he said he would love to try to learn to surf at Jimbaran bay with ebong (ebongs school of surf?). He is 5′8″ and about 160 pounds…so I don’t think he would need the massive board that you had picked out for me.
This december a Yankee whale (me) will be gracing the waves of Bali - beware.
