Visiting SOS International Bali

This afternoon I had to pay a visit to SOS International, the medical clinic located on Bypass Sanur, around 500 meters from the roundabout at Simpang Siur. My shoulder has been giving me pain so today was the time for a check up. SOS is open 24 hours and have modern facilities, making the experience somewhat user friendly.

From Seminyak the trip took around 15 minutes because of traffic, but once there I quiclky filled out a form and waited to see a doctor. SOS has branches all over the world and has English and Japanese speaking staff. My doctor was Balinese and organized some X-rays of my spine and shoulder. Was kind of funny standing there in front of the X-ray machine with my shorts around my knees, but I tried to keep a stiff upper lip.

Its times like this I’m glad of my health insurance, though my $500 deductable prevented me from using it today. Still if further treatment is required, I’ll have it taken care of. The company I use is International Medical Group, via the BootsnAll insurance site.

My X-rays were cervical spine (I twisted the heck out of it a couple of years ago), thoracal spine, lumbocrancial spine and head (to see if there’s anything in there). The whole lot plus some pain killers cost $150.

My doctor told me she the X-rays didn’t reveal anything, but she will call me after talking with a radiologist. Seems the problem might be I have a soft tissue injury which might not show up. Anyway if they don’t have an answer I’ll try a balian (Balinese faith healer). Clove of garlic around my neck, 3 Hail Mary’s before taking a dump, some insence attached to my motorbike and she’ll be right.

Two of the most common causes of shoulder pain are bursitis or a tear in the rorator cuff–neither of these show up on plain X-Ray you need a Ultra sound scan to see them.
Get some Salon Pas or Sivver Clove and use that to ease the pain meantime ,Nick.
Cheers laurs

Thanks Laura, you’ve got more common sense than the medical staff in Bali. I’m pointing to the site of the injury (common rotator cuff problem area) and she’s tell me it might be calcification in my neck. Yeah right!

I agree with Laura, Nick. It will not show up in an exray. I had the same problem about 7 years ago and went to a fantastic chiropractor in Ubud, named Jim. He is from California. He worked on me about six times and fixed me up. Also I would go and get Aloe Vera from the Incredible Health Spa in Ubud the name will come to me later its a beautiful place very famous with massive gardens very close to his house. They sell Aloe and make it fresh. I believe you have bursitis and arthritus(spelling) which Aloe will cure. You should continue to drink it for the rest of your life if you want to heal the muscle and prevent acute arthritus and burcitus from cropping up the rest of your life from previous injuries. I was a life and health underwriter for years and studied preventitive medicine for l5 years while I worked in the Insurance Industry. Believe me simply taking pain killers will not solve the problem. When you buy the fresh Aloe you mix it with purified water and keep it in the frigerator and drink about l/4 cup morning with your breakfast and again with your dinner. Trust me you will take a dump without the hell mary’s. ha ha The aloe will prevent flu’s, colds, help to cure spinal problems, hay fever, arthritus, colon problems, and declog the kitchen sink. hahaha No serious. From the doc’s Judy and Laura. Also will keep your skin looking much younger.

Nick: Just checked to see if you responded to my prescription for healing. I was not joking. Please can you give a shout out to say you read the message and take me seriously. Truly it will help. Ubud Sari is the name of the Gorgeous Health Spa. Amazing place. Doctor Jim I believe sold his house in Ubud and moved to Sanur. He also fixed my neck when I had a hair-line fracture caused from my garage door. thought I was going to dye. No joke. He fixed me up but told me if I did not begin to feel better I would have to go to Singapore Hospital for traction. At first he thought I had spinal meningitus. If you can locate him do so cuz he will help you get better.
