ninaA year ago I stopped into StreetLife, a bar on Jl. Oberoi, and chatted with owner Luca, from Belgium. This afternoon I went back to see how he’s doing. Luca is a man of action, and is currently splitting his time between Bali and Shanghai, a place he refers to as, the ‘new New York’. StreetLife is located about 50 meters before Rumours restaurant, and is a popular place with the real estate crowd. Also Luca told me, many restaurant chefs come along for a drink after work, as it is ideally situated.

Today Nina from Surabaya, was tending bar and eagerly asked questions, about where I live, what I do etc. She told me its hardly ever busy anymore, and the 2005 bomb really hammered things. Luca told me that people in Asia, often don’t realize Bali is Hindu, and are amazed he lives here. He suggested Bali step up its marketing campaign to point out, this is not a Muslim island, a barrier for some tourists.
