Should internet access be free in Bali hotels?

Travelling without access to the internet is something many people could not imagine. Paying for your internet connection is one thing, but paying extra for it, when staying in a luxury hotel is a bit much for some people. Do you think internet access should be free in Bali hotels?

Bali has an ever increasing selection of wi-fi internet hot spots, cafes and restaurants where you show up with your laptop and are on line for free. Many places such as Bali Deli will sell you access to their wi-fi network for a couple of hours at a time.

A while ago a bar owner asked me about charging for wi-fi access. I told him I’d rather pay for a fast connection, than get a lousy connection for free. Regarding the hotels, I think we should stop skirting the issue and go right to heart of the matter, should DRINKS be free?

I think hotels should consider free internet. Bali needs to keep up with the times and know that other Asian tigers, like Vietnam, are way ahead in the internet stakes. Many hotels have free internet access. If not free, then the hotels should consider charging better rates, my experience is that it costs more in hotels than internet spots around the place.

Most people that travel with a laptop wouldn’t mind paying for fast wireless internet. But 56kb wireless internet available most places is a bit like sitting in a Seminyak taksi waiting for the roadworks to complete. You will get there, eventually.

If there is free internet connection, the connection mostly sucks. Yeah, I agree, for a luxury hotel, a free and fast connection should be included in the service.

I don’t mind pay $20 a day for a stable broadband connection in a hotel. I hate using internet cafes.

In my opinion the internet is like a road system or a plumbing system. It benefits me and it benefits everyone else to be efficient.

Free high speed internet should be a national priority, enabling people and businesses to access information and make informed choices.
