Lonely Planet has such a reputation that many small business owners in Bali feel its make or break to get included. I reckon providing a good service is more important than pleasing LP, but being recommended doesn’t hurt. I know the owner of Secret Garden, on Poppies Lane I in Kuta, and he was not happy when LP’s guide to Bali ommitted everyone but Poppies Restaurant on that street.

Well times have changed and Secret Garden has risen above the competition to feature in the new LP SE Asia guide. Here’s what they say about Poppies I’s favourite drinking place.

Secret Garden Bar & Cafe: A gregarious atmosphere, no-fuss, filling food, ice-cold beer and a pleasant setting make this one of on Poppies flagship eateries. The clientele ranges from boozy expats to dreadlocked surfniks.
