Schapelle Corby: My life is hell in Bali

Schapelle Corby, the convicted drug smuggler imprisoned in Kerobokan jail, says her life is hell. Cramped conditions, scummy roomates and no freedom, have had a steady wearing down effect on the former beauty therapist.

Right now I can totally understand where she’s coming from. I took a shower at 4pm, and brushing my teeth I was sweating again. The heat alone in that jail must be awful. Sanitary conditions, along with the general health of the other inmates, must make living in Kerobokan a health hazard.

Schapelle Corby’s new book, My Story, talks about her drug conviction and life in jail. From a Bali tourist’s point of view, its a bit of a lark, trying to visit Schapelle or the Bali Nine. From their point of view, it must compound the insanity, of being locked in a stinking cage. Maybe Schapelle will opt for a prisoner exchange, should the law be passed. Certainly her health would be a lot better, in the long run.

On another note. All you lovers of real-life crime thrillers. OJ Simpson, ‘The Juice’, who got away with murder back in 1995, has written a book called ‘If I Did It‘. In the book, he states he did not kill his wife and her lover, but then describes how he ‘would of done it’. Is this guy trying to make people puke? ‘How I would of killed my ex-wife (who I supposedly loved)?’ One thing you have to say for OJ though, he played his cards right, at the right time, beating that amount of evidence was the escape of the century.

Hi Nick, I don’t feel too sorry for Shepelle. It is too bad that that is how she has to live but she should have thought of that before trying to bring the marijuana to Bali. I do think that the sentence is very harsh however and that I have pity for her. Marijuana is pretty harmless and I am sure it is readily grown all of the country.

OJ that is a different story as I thought he was devoting the rest of his life to finding the real killer. I think he might see this person everyday he brushes his teeth.

Schapelle Corby either knew about the marijuana in her bag, or ome of her relo’s put it there. Her whole family has a drug dealing history, everyone knows that. It is likely that having relatives on both ends, here in Bali and back in Australia, also travelling with her, that someone related stuffed it into her bag.

Simpson wasn’t fooling anyone. Now he’s just making a fool of himself.

“Her whole family has a drug dealing history, everyone knows that. ”

Please explain, Nick.

Her dad is a cleanskin except for an arrest involving 2 grams of dope (a joint) 30 years ago.

Brother James has done some stupid break and entry thing 18 months after Schapelle’s arrest but at the time of the arrest he was a 16 yo cleanskin.

Sister Mercedes is a cleanskin as is husband Wayan.

Schapelle herself was a cleanskin.

Her Mum is a cleanskin.

Half-brother Clinton has a history, although I’ve heard nothing to suggest that he’s a dealer or that he had much to do with Schapelle in the last decade.

In a report at the time local Tugun cops said that had no reason to suspect the Corbys of anything.

After Schapelle’s arrest the AFP did an investigation and reported that they had no information about Schapelle or her family. Similarly, the Bali police found no evidence of a distribution network in Bali.

I think you’ve been too accepting of expat wisdom there, Nick.

I just finished Schapelle’’s book. I really have no basis to say if she is innocent or guilty. she does say that she is innocent.

regardless her life has turned hellish, beyond anything she imagined I am sure. My heart goes out to her, as it would to anyone else in this situation. 20 years is a long time.
