Room with a View: East Bali

Not far from Tirtagangga on the east coast of Bali, a road weaves up through the hills. A few hundred metres up this winding road is the quaintest little warung with spectacular views over the padi fields and the surrounding area. It is called Ryoshi.

I visited this place a while ago with Nick. The first sign you see of the place is a huge boulder on the side of the road which serviced as a sign for it. Turning into the small gravel carpark you cannot see the warung because it is set high up behind a few trees. But, once you enter the open-air warung the view immediately takes your breath.

In the late afternoon light, we sat and enjoyed iced, green tea and listened to the chatter of the monkeys in the heavy forested hills and below us, verdant green rice fields shimmering in the light of the setting sun. Nick decided to spend a penny and upon asking the owner was pointed to a bamboo hut some distance away. On his return, Nick blurted out "Ya gotta see that loo!".

Curiosity has always been the better part of my judgement and upon investigation found there were only three bamboo walls and not four!. An open-air loo with a spectacular view as you 'take care of business'.

I hope its a picture of the Tirtagangga rice fields, and not the occupant of the loo.
