It is enough to make an alcoholic cry in his bottle or a junkie weep in his syringe. I am talking about the police in Jakarta destroying confiscated booze and dope.
There are so many speak-easy's in Jakarta and they are regularly getting raided by the police and of course hardline Muslim groups. Not only that, the drug situation on the island of Java is getting beyond ridiculous proportions with all manner of drugs freely available.
In East Jakarta, police and the municipal administration bulldozed over 15,000 bottles of alcoholic drinks and burned drugs confiscated during police raids between January and May.
"We will keep up the raids to restrict the trafficking of these illegal goods" police chief Robinson Manurung was quoted as saying in Tempointeraktif.
The drugs destroyed at the municipality office compound included 110 kilograms of marijuana, 207.40 grams of low-grade heroin, 15.07 grams of crystal methamphetamine and 89 ecstasy pills.
The police also paraded at the event two men arrested in May in Pulogadung district for allegedly possessing 25 kilograms of marijuana.
