No change in Bali

What joke this place is. I just went to Circle K in Seminyak, and had to leave without my stuff, because the guy couldn’t change 50,000rp.

Infrastructure / education / corruption and organization are huge barriers to getting things done here, as well as the country moving forward. When a chain store can’t change $5, its a bad sign. The guy was nice about it, and suggested I go to a money changer. There’s only so much shit I can deal with, so I declined.

If you are visiting Bali, change will often be an issue. Always count your change, always have plenty of change when taking a taxi, as the drivers pretend not to have change, hoping you will allow them to keep it.

Hi Nick,

This is one that really annoys me too. I take that attitude that it is their responsibility to have change (so long as I have reasonably small notes and 50k is not huge for Circle K). I would tell them to go and get the change or phone the owner (I have his HP number now). This usually works. With Taxis I do the same, I say OK you have no change but this is your job, OK I offered to pay so I speak to your boss. Immediately change is found!

Arrive 25th December and nowhere to stay yet!

Ok .. So what

No Change.. No Problemo. Try another Circle K
Theres more than one.

I have SBY’s HP number but I dont call him to complain everytime I have a problem in Indonesia.
Its the responsibility of the visitor to accept things are a little different here.

Not to your liking. No Problemo. Stay away.

Eddie,

This is not true, I know the owner of circle K and he is furious. He knows how to run a business, just look how well he has done. Just because it is Indonesia we don\’t have to accept this sort of cr£p. I have been doing business in Indonesia for over 20 years and the people I have made rich are the ones who understand how to do long term business. This is a big problem, you rip me off I\’m not coming back, not just to you but maybe your country! Not a good scenario.

If yoou just accept it as normal it will become normal – fight back. Just say here is the money where is my change. You not got it, OK go get it. It works!
