No anti-Pope sentiment in Bali

Looking at the news, I see the Pope has put his foot in it and upset Muslims. Seems like whoever is Pope is bound to get a certain amount of flak, when they start telling people how to live their life. This guy didn’t stop there, and pulled out some medieval rheteric about Islam and war. Poor old guy, I’m sure he didn’t anticipate causing a firestorm.

Here in Bali I have heard nothing about it, apart from what I read in the Jakarta Post. Some sensible Muslim leaders around the world, have said publicly, that as the Pope has apologised, we Muslims should let it go. I second that, and take no personal offence to his comments. I was born a Catholic, but jumped over to the darkside / lightside, depending on what side of the cultural divide you sit. I recommend it and there are benefits! One of the best, is if ever Jehovah Witnesses come to my door, I can hold my certificate and say “I’m Muslim.”

Christian visitors to Bali should have nothing to worry about, over this incident, people here are cool and you can visit a church on your trip, if the mood takes you.

This whole thing with the Pope is ridiculous and just underlines again how paranoid and insecure most muslims are.

Quoting some Emperor no one’s ever heard of in a talk to university students about how violence gets you know where, so what, why even bother to give it attention.

But no, the usual rabble are out on the streets burning effigies, threatening to kill people, churches burned in the Middle East, an elderly Italian nun shot four times and killed in Somalia all to show that Islam isn’t violent at all, its all about peace. Oh really.

Whilst I agree that the reactions of some people to what the Pope said have been over the top, I strongly object to the Pope feeling that he has the right to dictate morality etc to the rest of the world, whether we choose to be part of his flock or not.

Maybe the “poor old guy” has learned a lesson from this. Quite obviously, he’s no more “infallible” than I am!

Should the Pope have said what he said? – No, he should have restrained himself from saying things that cam be miss interpreted, after all, he’s a sort of a political figure.
But the reactions are out of line. Even though Islam is all about good, all about peace, all about helping the next, all about being the best person we can be (just like Catholicism I might add), it may be compared to the medieval catholic church, ruled by a lot of unworthy priests, cardinals and Popes.
A religious leader that inflames spirits and urges people for hate is a shame for any religion.

Hi Gohindo… that’s right. The leaders, not only the religious leaders but all leaders in this world, should be careful in whatever they say and do.
Pray for peace!!

I mostly agree with the comments above but being neither aa muslim or christian I can’t say it particularly affects me what the pope thinks or says. However I did find it objectionable what the ‘leader’ of the mighty church in Australia George Pell had to say about the matter. paraphrased “the pope was right and he shouldn’t have appologised for telling the truth”. What a knob. Can’t help wondering what would be the christians response if a spiritual leader of any other religion piped up and said that Jeesus slept with hookers and possibly had an unhealthy relationship with his mother…
