This afternoon I met up with Palu, the Aussie guy from Byron who has a surfboard factory on the Bukit. Palu specializes in big yellow sleds, for learners. If you want to wipe out half a dozen Kuta Cowboys in one go, borrow one of Palu’s boards, they are surfing’s equivalent to the Humvee.
Latest news is Palu has new website (and here’s a guy who was not interested in a #1 Google ranking for ‘Bali surfboards’ 2 years ago, on Baliblog). When Palu gets time off, from his waitress job at Q Bar in Seminyak, he actually shapes a good board, his surfing lesson students, feeling confident in his no frills approach, which also includes safety tips. Not a great surfer himself, he tends to hog the beach break on small afternoons in Kuta (that’s him in the bikini). If you are coming to Bali, there’s nothing more fun than learning to surf. I recommend taking surfing lessons from someone who takes safety seriously (he’s never been out of his depth). For surfers new to Bali looking for a decent board that will take a beating, you might look up the big guy on Poppies II in Kuta. The yellow boards are so bloody ugly, that no Balinese will ever steal it from you!
So come on out to Bali, experience the thrill of surfing, with an experienced professional.

Hi Nick, he’s gonna love YOU for that one mate,he told me that he actually prefers his part time job at the Q,he reckons its much better than sittin on his arse in the shop,Wiwin also loves it cse it gets him out of her hair.
Palu’s Q Bar cocktail is actually named ‘Pisang kacil’ and sells like hot cakes.
Well, tis the season to shed some new light on the Chap from Byron Bay’s moonlighting escapades at Q Bar. I do wish him the best with his new life over there with the Bumbandits. Here here to a new round of “stiff bananas.”
Palu has developed a large customer base at Q Bar with his new tropical rum drink, the Stiff Banana.
