[…] Candi Dasa could be called the ‘gateway to East Bali‘. The completion of the Kusamba highway means one can get there from Kuta in less than 2 hours with little stress. The choice of accommodation in Candi Dasa is good and there is a selection of services. • Bicycle rental Candi Dasa itself is one strip of businesses along a busy coastal road. This is not exactly the type of place you’d choose to cycle, but for those wishing to explore the area around the Bali Aga village of Tenganan and the neighboring village of Tenganan Dauhtukad, a bicycle would work fine. Many guest houses will be able to rent you a bicycle or point you some a place that will. Likely price is 25,000rp-30,000rp per day. […]
[…] My relatives from Central Java are in town and have requested I take them on a road trip. East Bali is one of my favorite parts of the island so that’s where we’re heading. The 2 main places in my are Amed and Candi Dasa, simply because there is a selection of accommodation and cool scenery close by. Candi Dasa will win out as it can be reached in under 2 hours from Kuta. Organizing this trip will be super easy, starting with renting a cheap SUV from Bali Puspa on Jl. Dhyana Pura. I’ll probably get a car for 150,000rp, fill up with petrol at the station on Jl. Kunti and be off like a dirty shirt. […]
Poor Candidasa. If there is a resort area suffering most in Bali, it’s probably this. The beach was destroyed to make cement to make hotels; the road through it is a truckers’ favorite, meaning noise and pollution; ruined buildings show that no new tenants took over failed spaces; and the surviving businesses seem desperate.
It’s too bad. This could be (and once was) a great place to explore east Bali.
