Jevon in Seminyak Bali

jevonJevon is almost 1.5 years old and is coming along nicely. He’s healthy, alert and Ika has taught him to count to 10, and learn 14 letters of the alphabet. Recently returned from a long trip to Java, Jevon has left his little group of friends there, and is rediscovering his local friends in Bali. Yesterday he had interactions with people who spoke mostly English (Toby & Maya), Javanese (Ika, Ika’s mother, sister), and in the morning Balinese (staff at Cafe Seminyak), plus a healthy dose of Indonesian, from Palu’s family. Jevon isn’t aware of Christmas and I didn’t have the energy, or inclination to create ‘Christmas in Bali’. He celebrated Idul Fitri in Java, with the whole Muslim culture and I’m sure that confused him enough.

At 1.5, Jevon is still breast feeding, the signal is “memem”. Outside of that he gets pureed fruit and veg, rice, meat, fried tempe and other non-spicy foods. We don’t give him sweets / candy, simply because there’s so much other stuff that he likes, that’s better for him. That issue took care of itself, and since I don’t keep sweets around the house, there’s no option. A friend was telling just last night “he’s a blank canvas, and will whatever you create.” I agree, and staying positive is key to all that. We will take a short trip soon, which will be great.

He’s a little cutie!

I agree with the concept of not giving them sweeties, delay as long as poss. Maija didn’t ate any until she was 2 and a bit years old and my friends think almost absurd she never get any so far considering her dad is a chocoholic :-)

Have a fantastic new year’s celebration!
