Internet access in Bali

Coming back from East Bali today, I was told by Jeff, owner of Galaxy bar, in Seminyak, that the earthquake in Taiwan, has upset all the internet access in Indonesia.

On Jl. Dhyana Pura, one place is open, the other closed. In Kuta, on Poppies I, staff at one internet cafe told me all of Bali was out of internet access. Checking Internet Traffic Report, I see the Indonesian router is down, causing 100% packet loss.

Not sure why the one next to Warung Mimpi is working, while the others aren’t. Speed here is okay, although no USB, or AC (yes its hot in here!). If you are in Seminyak area, you might try Global Xtreme on Jl. Raya Kerobokan, that place has as good as chance as anywhere of getting online.

Yup, Nick…
We at GlobalXtreme Internet Cafe were lucky that we did not effect by Taiwan earth quake. And I had a good news:

Effective January 1st 2007 GlobalXtreme Internet Café is a non-smoking facility.

In anticipation of the Indonesian government’s forthcoming regulation to ban smoking in public areas, we have decided to make GlobalXtreme a no smoking zone.

Smokers have been provided with a lovely fan-cooled outdoor patio area complete with wireless internet (and ashtrays).

We kindly request your understanding and cooperation.

You can ask for a RESERVED sign from our staff to save your computer while you take a smoking break outdoors. Please be aware that GlobalXtreme is not responsible for your personal goods.

As our gift to your health and ours, let’s welcome 2007 with fresh air!

Happy New Year 2007 !!

The GlobalXtreme Crew
