Indonesian Students Win Gold in Physics

When I was in my senior years at high school I used to adore Physics. I never understood the principles nor did I pass the exams but I enjoyed it.

And now it seems that some Indonesian students have done their country proud in a global competition. Five Indonesian students who participated in the 37th International Physics Olympiad taking place in Singapore from July 8-16 grabbed four gold medals and one silver.

All students during the competition were required to make four physics experiments and answer three essay questions. China eventually became the event's overall champion winning five gold medals.

The Indonesian students' participation in the previous physics olympiad in Salamanca, Spain, in 2005 and in South Korea in 2004, Indonesia only got two gold medals respectively.

In an effort to win the 2007 physics olympiad which will be held in China students had already started preparing for the event.

"Our objective is to beat China in next year's olympiad as it is more challenging because the questions for the event will be prepared by China" the students said.

The five Indonesian students who took part in the 37th International Physics Olympiad were Jonathan Mailoa, Ho Pangus, Irwan Adeputra and Andi Octavian Latif (all gold medal winners) and Firmansyah Muhammad from Attirah junior high school in Makassar, South Sulawesi, who got a silver medal.

Jonathan Pradana Mailoa was also named the “Absolute Winner” at the Olympiad by scoring the highest points for his experiment, beating out 386 participants from 84 countries in the July 8-16 competition in Singapore….. I really proud of them :)
