Everyone has their own travel experience in Bali, which leaves them with their own view of the ‘Island of the Gods.’ Karyn Lindberg, from America visited Bali in November, and gives some useful tips for people on their first visit.
Karyn overcame the terrifying travel warnings, crippling jet lag and the impossible new culture, only to find that Bali was wonderful, her base of Ubud, was awash with handy, smiling locals, all ready to paint her a picture, and drive her around. Well I never!
She suggests a car and driver are the way to go, as is packing light and using the local laundry. Karyn didn’t mention drinking tuak with the guys, but give her a chance, she was only here for 3 weeks. Her tips for guidebooks were “Lonely Planet’s Bali & Lombok” and “The Natural Guide to Bali.

What a great read!
Wow, that is a great reference for people who want to visit Ubud, very useful for a holiday-in-Ubud planning.
We discovered Bali after the first bombings and everyone said not to go.
We booked a seven day stay, had a two year old and figured that we would eaither love it or hate it and seven days would either be too long or not lonbg enough.
I can proudly say we loved it, were desperate for more and the trip was definately not long enough. So much so, the following three visits were the full two weeks each (all we can afford in leave each time).
I have a guide that I have prepared that I print out for all friends on what we like and recommend and are glad to report that there has been no disappointments as yet.
I actively promote amongst our friends that Bali is a fantastic holiday destination both for couples and families and we will be visitng for many years to come.
Miranda,
Thanks for your blog on Bali. It gives me a lot more hope for our first vacation to Bali this coming July. We will have fourteen days there and have no idea where on the island to stay and where to stay away from, etc. Can you post your Bali guide, as an aid for me as well as other Bali travelers? I know I will refer to it!!
Thanks
