Any place seems boring after too many repeat visits, Nepal, Thailand or Bali and Ubud is no different. I'd spend more time in the non touristy places, if you can call Amed/Selang, Batur and Munduk areas 'non touristy' or bring my mountain bike along.

I've found Ubud a bit boring the past couple of visits and not really worth paying to stay. If staying outside of Ubud, but want a nice pool and then a good dinner (say, at Casa Luna), you can consider spending the day there and paying just for pool priveleges. Most hotels listed above have "pool only" prices (Ubud Village does not, for some reason--try Pertiwi, which is almost next door--insist on the upper pool, which is nicer) for around RP20,000 per person. Bring your own towel and beer...there's a mini mart almost across the street, as well as a nice restaurant just across (the name escapes me) which offers two for one mojito happy hours, right about when it's time to get out of the pool--and they do great mojitos!!
