Balinese wedding in Tabanan Bali-part III

Wayan’s sister Kadek drove me over to the other family’s house, were the ceremony was being held. There I met her husband, a great guy named Made. I got a really good feeling from him, and his brother was exactly the same energy. I’d say Wayan scored winner.

They were both decked out in larger than life ceremonial wear, plenty of gold on her and a black Javanese jacket on him. I wish I looked as cool at my wedding as he did today.

Inside the family compound were shrine and a raised, tiled bale structure, filed with offerings. During my first 30 minutes at the ceremony, which was in a slow progression, an older lady lit bamboo sticks and did various blessings with holy water.

All the while, 2 pemangku’s sat under the bale, one ringing a bell and saying prayers.
