Bali vs. London at Christmas time

Maybe its because I’m a Londoner, that I left and live in Bali. The ‘Big Smoke’ is a cold windy place, but gains a special something around Christmas. Most people the take a week off of work and from Dec 24th to Jan 2nd, spend time with family, eat, drink and visit friends. Its great.

Here in Bali, the locals seem to do nothing but spend time with family, eat, drink and visit friends, 365 days a year. Maybe they are the smart ones, and us ‘bules’ have got it all backwards. What does Christmas in Bali mean for an expat? To be honest, if it wasn’t for the date on the newspaper and relatives sending me Christmas cards, I wouldn’t know it was on. Most people in Bali are Hindu, and most expats are not what you’d call, the ‘religious type’. I guess tommorrow is Christmas eve, so I’ll celebrate with a BBQ at my house. Christmas day, who knows?

We had 3 days of severe fog that cause chaos. Most flights to europe and long haul has been cancelled. Freezing cold! The Beebs says we spent of approx. 36 billion leading up to Christmas. Certainly a merry one to shop(a sore one to my bank balance) ho..ho..ho.

BBQ sound like music to my ear! Needless to say, HAPPY CHRISTMAS to you and all the balibloggers! Best Wishes from the ol’ blighty.
