Ubud is the home of traditional culture in Bali, at least as far as many tourists are concerned. Ubud is lucky to have an abundance of artists, craftsmen and dancers.
If you want to see a strict version of traditional Balinese dance Ubud is the place. Downtown Ubud and in the surrounding villages, organized traditional dances are open to western visitors. Here is a list of the dances performed regularly.
Legong: Ubud Palace (Mon & Sat), ARMA museum (Sun), Peliatan (Tues & Fri).
Kecak: Peliatan (Fri), ARMA museum every new moon and full moon.
Kecak Fire Dance: Junjungan (Mon)
Kecak Fire & Trance Dance: Pura Dalem Ubud (Fri), Padantegal (Sat, Sun, Tues, Wed).
Barong & Kris: Padangtegal (Mon), Batubulan various days.
Barong & Rangda: Ubud Palace (Fri), Batubulan most days.
Ramayana Ballet: Ubud Palace (Tues)
