Balinese people make a great fuss about kids, whether their own or someone elses. You will see very young Balinese kids playing all over place unsupervised and this is part of the Balinese attitude. Balinese children are not allowed to touch the ground before their first birthday and must be passed from relative to relative. You may find Balinese people will picks up your young child if they see it crawling on the ground. Balinese regard crawling as an animal like activity to be avoided and will use a sarong tied up as a sling or a specially made version of this to carry the young child in front.
Bali has a lot for kids to do apart from shopping and the beach. Resorts have water-based activities and large swimming pools, not to mention games, and activities. If your kids are active they can enjoy hiking, whitewater rafting and mountain biking.
Kids tend to love the pantomime-like atmosphere at Balinese dances with fantastic characters portraying good and evil. Bali does have specially themed parks such as Waterbom Park in Kuta, the Elephant Park in Taro and the Taman Burung Bird & Reptile Park in Batubulan.
The Hard Rock Hotel located on Jl. Kartika Plaza in Kuta has a beach park with a lagoon pool, sandy beach and volleyball nets. There is a 100,000rp admission, but for keeping the kids occupied while you get quietly sloshed it can be worth it. Most hotels that I have visited provide a babysitting service, so you and the wife can go out and enjoy yourself. If you plan it you can all have a good time in Bali.

The photo was taken on the road heading inland from Padangbai towards Telagan
Nick,
I can add that upon arrival in Bali each time we go straight to village in Tuban, say Hello & have a drink & a chat & then ask maddy what she would really like to do first, immediately shje changes & we haed for the beach, which is her favourite, she will run & run & run & splash & tire herself out, have a bowl of mie & we take her home she has a mandi & she crashes… Dede & I then go out for dinner & a few drinks, it’s great that the family watch over her & fuss over her, As there are a number of younger kids at home still in Bali Maddy often chooses to stay there whilst we go out shopping etc, her favourite things to do are go to Beach, TimeZone, go to our friends shops & watch bands play…
We allow her to come out one night to a bar where her Uncle’s play in various bands & she get’s up to sing or just dance etc, but she must have an afternoon sleep prior to coming out, but she loves it, we take her home by 10pm….
I can imagine the baby this year will be kidnapped from us we will hardly see him/her!!!!
But I think Bali is a Tremendous place for a family to holiday…
Nice pic Nick. Do you remember where that was taken? Was it anywhere near on the road to Amed?
