Rough Guides: Bali & Lombok

The best guide book to Bali & Lombok is Rough Guides. Of the many books on the market this one seems the best researched with a tom of historical data as well as great attention to detail. I have used Rough Guide Bali & Lombok for close to 2 years myself.

You may not be planning a long trip to Bali and feel that you have everything planned but the book makes fascinating reading. On many occasions I have been excited to discover a new Hidden Gem, only to find Rough Guides has already covered it. There is a guide to bemo buses and the guide writers have taken the time to ride on the bemos, listing places to stop and connect with other buses.

Rough Guides: Bali & Lombok has 586 pages, considerably more than some of the other Johnny-come-lately guidebooks that skip over or ignore relevant information. The book is written in a respectful style too that informs and is absolutely loaded with facts. The book is broken down into a Photo Section, Basics, Guide, Contents (History, Religion, Arts), Language and Index.

The 4th edition cost $17.95. Buy it on Amazon.

Or pre-order the 5th edition due out in November 2005.

G’Day Nick,

Totally agree with you about Rough Guides. Excellent and the format informative and easy to use.

I bought a copy a month a go just out of curiosity and was indeed impressed. Goodbye Lonely Planet etc!.

I still maintain that BnA should get into the guidebook market. With all the superb writers they have (you included!) and the input received, it would outsell the others by a mile.
