Restaurant lingo in Indonesia

Time right now is 6.15pm and by stomach is growling. Since starting to workout again my weight has dropped by a kilo! I eat like a horse and after this article I’ll be heading down to Warung Murah in Legian to load up on nasi campur.

Speaking of food, here’s some Indonesian phrases you can use in a restaurant, especially for people like me who are always in a hurry.

May I see the menu? What’s the specialty in this restaurant? – Boleh saya lihat daftar makanan? Apa keistimewaan rumah makan ini?
We’re in a hurry, please bring our orders quickly. – Kami terburu-buru, tolong cepatkan pesanan kami.
When will it be ready? What’s the price? – Kapan siapnya? Berapa harganya?
That’s too expensive. Have you got Indonesian dishes? – Itu terlalu mahal. Apakah anda menyajikan makanan Indonesia?
Let’s have some sate. Don’t make it too spicy – Mari kita makan sate. Jangan terlalu pedas.
What is this / that? I’d like another helping. Is there more? – Apa ini / itu? Saya mau tambah lagi. Ada lagi?
Please bring us some hot chili sauce. Bring me coffee. – Bawakan lah kami sambal. Bawakan untuk saya kopi.

Here is the ‘more relaxing’ version:

Punya menu tidak?
(Makanan) yang paling enak di restoran ini apa?

We’re in a hurry, please bring our orders quickly. –
Kami terburu-buru, bisa cepat nggak ya?!

When will it be ready? What’s the price? –
Kira-2 lama tidak pesanannya siap?
Berapa harganya?

That’s too expensive. Have you got Indonesian dishes? –
Itu terlalu mahal. Jual masakan Indo tidak?

Let’s have some sate. Don’t make it too spicy – Makan sate, yuk. Jangan terlalu pedas.

What is this / that? I’d like another helping. Is there more? – Apa ini / itu? Saya mau tambah. Masih ada?

Please bring us some hot chili sauce. Bring me coffee. –

This version is what Indonesians use everyday. Hope it helps.
