Reliability of Internet cafes in Bali-part II

In my experience if all you want to do is surf the web and check your email, you can get away with dial up. Anything more involved you'll need a better connection. In the Kuta area you can get 250rp per minute, in Sanur its going to be 400rp per minute. Global in Kerobokan offers something like 150 per minute.

If you lose connection and are wondering why your pages won't load you might try pinging Google. Go to Programs, Accessories, Command Prompt, and then type 'ping google.com'. If you are connected you'll get some kind of speed evaluation. Don’t rely on cafe staff to tell you there is no connection. They will happily allow newcomers to try to log on even though there is no connection. It's all money in the bank for them. When you are finished and have signed out of all your email accounts and private areas, go to Tools, Options, then delete all cookies and history. This can help prevent other people from accessing your data should there be a mistake somewhere.
