Pura Bukit Dharma Durga Kutri: Inner courtyard

A jaba tengah (middle courtyard) was off to the left side, which I bypassed. It was marked with a sign saying ‘Pura Puseh / Desa - Desa Pekraman Kutri’ (the village temple and temple of the founders of Kutri village). Heading straight to the elegant jeroan (inner courtyard), where the important temple ceremonies are held, I loved the look of the forest behind the temple, with the huge banyan trees dangling their vines. The inner courtyard at Pura Bukit Dharma Durga Kutri was indeed guarded by 2 stone pigs and a couple of naga (evil looking goblins).

Passing through one of the narrow doors I saw the area was too completely empty of people. The inside area was highly decorated and one could imagine the founders of the village having no difficulty whatsoever in deciding this was an auspicious place. The many thatched wooden structures each have a special purpose and symbolic meaning. These were all decorated with red and gold paint and looked smart. In the center of the courtyard sat the ‘gedong peruman‘ an empty pavilion where the Gods are invited to assemble and enjoy temple festivals.

G’Day Nick,

Nice coverage of one of my favourite temples in Bali. I gather you didn’t hike up the stairs again like last time as you haven’t put up a foto of Durga or the steps!.
