Practicalities of bringing young children to Bali-part I

westin_pool.jpgSome of the large hotels in Bali make concessions to families with young children, with some offering extra beds for kids sharing a room with their parents. Tuban has many family-friendly hotels like the Discovery Kartika Plaza for instance. Tuban is south of Kuta and the closest area to the airport. Being on the beach makes Tuban very popular with family groups and the hotels in the area range from the Discovery type of place with its sprawling grounds and swimming polls to budget places like the Green Garden. The Adhi Jaya is one of them any mid-range hotels in Tuban that also has family rooms. Some people rate the Westin Resort Nusa Dua as the premier family hotel in that area, while others prefer the downtown feel and the 3 swimming pools at the Jayakarta in Legian. Legian is in the center of the tourist scene and that is why so many hotels and restaurants have set up there, including the family friendly Club Bali Family Suites.

An alternative to a hotel is to go for a guesthouse. There are plenty of these in Kuta and Ubud and you may have to ask for a 3-bed room if your kid is too old to share a bed with you. A villa would also be a perfect choice for a family and these come in all shapes and sizes. There are plenty of holiday villas around for around $150 a day and also long tern rentals (I pay 25m rp for a year).

I would have to give 100 points to staying at a Losmen with Kids & would have to say these have always been my preference for accom when we have travelled around the Island with Maddy.
As it usually a close family run place with approx 6-10 rooms, they will go out of their way to get to know you & invite you to Ceremonies or off to market with them & also offer to keep an eye on child whilst you quickly head out!
It is a family environment & the kids enjoy getting to know the staff rather than a few new faces everyday!
I have stayed in losts of local style accom & always choose that over some shmansy Hotel, even prior to kids & when Maddy & I also travelled when she was 2, I have never thought that i should be staying anywhere else! We have made lot’s of close friends from these places & cannot give these places a big enough wrap!!!!

There are hundreds to choose from & always suggest to any friends heading over to take their first 4 nights accom at a Bidget Hotel as a package & then go stay at a Losmen with few rooms, to have true quality service!!!
