Ogah ogah at Pura Bukit Dharma Durga Kutri
A few kms west of Gianyar is the town of Kutri, home of Pura Bukit Dharma Durga Kutri. Pulling into the parking area I immediately saw an old man and 2 kids working on a couple of ogah ogah’s. These are monsters that will be used on the eve of Nyepi (March 29th) to scare away evil spirits from Bali. Most likely it will be a lively occasion, with parents and kids looking on. Denpasar and Bemo Corner in Kuta, are the 2 best places to watch the ogah ogah. The 2 that these guys were making looked similar, except one was green, the other brown.
After the ogah ogah’s have done their job and scared away evil spirits from Bali, everyone must go back to their house and stay there for the duration of Nyepi Day (March 30th), only being able to step outside after daybreak the next day, this includes tourists. Still figuring out where I’m going to be over Nyepi.
