No tsunami problems in Bali

Today I visited the British Consulate in Sanur and spoke to the Honorary British Consul, Mark Wilson.

As some people might be aware the location of the British Consulate has changed from the Cat & Fiddle pub (which itself changed location) to across the Bypass to Jl. Tirta Nadi close to the SOBEK building.

Mark told me that the British embassy in Jakarta had ordered them to move to a move secure building with security in front because of the threat of terrorism. Fancy trying to blow up the Cat & Fiddle!

Anyway I told Mark that I had recently returned to Bali after being away for a month and my flights went smoothly. He said he gets emails and phone calls asking if visiting Bali right now will be a health risk because of dead bodies and polluted water supplies. Let me clarify the situation in case you have doubts. Bali was unaffected by the tsunami. No deaths, no destruction, business as usual. The mood here doesn’t seem to have changed all that much, most people are trying to earn a living although they acknowledge the tragedy in Aceh.

Hi there.
My girlfriend and I are visiting bali in exactly 5 days.. so excited. Just wondered being apart of indonesia has the tsunami had any effects? Just effects in general. We are flying directly to bali so we shouldnt even land in indonesia I just need to reasure my girlfriend that the people are still in good spirits!
If you could email me back befor departure that would be great. Any other travellers stories or tips would be great too. Thanks
