Looking for hotel deals in Bali

There are many websites about Bali and most of them are just fronts for hotel bookers. Go to Google and type in Bali and the things you will notice it a lot of hotels for sale. Everybody is actually selling the same hotel rooms, but for differnet prices.

pool_sepir_022505v5_opt.JPG

My focus is talking about Bali and the hotel side not the focus but looking through what is out there I notice some of our prices are competitive. By not having a list of hotels on our homepage it takes a while to navigate our complex array of Accomodation advice from Guest Houses to Hotels, to finally being able to book.

I find it pays to shop around a bit, do a Google search on the area you want to stay in, say Kuta close to nighlife, surfing and shopping, and type Hotels Kuta Bali Indonesia. If you like the busy area along the beach near the new Discovery shopping mall you might try typing in Hotels Tuban Bali Indonesia and see what comes up. Do the same for any other areas you are interested in. As always its good to check out prices on more than 1 website.

Bali has supposedly 20,000 hotel and guest house rooms and checking them out is part of my job. It becomes a blur after a while as so many places are designed in very similar ways. One thing I do notice though is how newer places and those that that have been renovated look in comparison to older ones. A modern guest house will often be clean and pleasant, whereas a 20 year old budget hotel might take the edge off your Bali feeling a bit with broken tiles, dirty bathroom and smells.

My list of hotel reviews, ones I actually visited is getting long and I have a couple of hundred more to go!

Yesterday I visited the Sofitel Seminyak, formerly the Royal Seminyak, located at the end of Jl. Dhyana Pura opposite Gado Gado restaurant. This place is a mid-sized resort that has been around for a while and reminds me of a place I used to work, the Four Seasons Biltmore in Santa Barbara, California. The thing I like about it is the shady brick laneways between the large private villas. Plenty of tall trees, bale structures and kul kul ( Balinese hanging split log bells) and general feeling of tranquility. All the villas are being renovated right now with teams of guys tearing them to pieces. I can imagine how lovely the place will look in a few monthes time, retaining its beach front location and old money feel, while having a spanking new interior.

Here is a way to Search our hotel list by Area.

Here’s another review of the Sofitel in Seminyak:

On the beach. Jalan Dhyana Pura, LEGIAN, is 10 km N of the airport. Formerly the HOTEL IMPERIAL BALI, this property is a mixed offering set on 4-1/2 beautifully landscaped hectares. The sprawling but well-designed complex embraces three-story accommodation buildings and some superb one- and two-story villas. The peaceful glass-enclosed lobby has an ornate floor of marble mosaic and many fine Balinese artifacts. Romantics will appreciate the refined teppan-yaki and seafood restaurant at dinner. The cafe is open from 6 am to midnight, and the poolside snack bar satisfies cravings at other hours. The lounge is particularly elegant at sunset but has no outdoor sections. A spa with a sauna and steam and treatment rooms — but no exercise facilities — has replaced the health club. Two tennis courts supplement the putting greens. Boasting a dazzling stone and bronze sculpture depicting the kecak dance, the amphitheater fronts the main pool, which features whirlpool jets, underwater speakers and bronze statues of sunbathing beauties. Together with a second free-form spot, these pools are far more inviting than the lackluster beach. Conference facilities seat 250. Accommodations are graded superior and deluxe. The former are on lower floors and lack stall showers, while the latter are roomier, better and higher, and they boast frescoed ceilings and superior views. All have marble foyers, wood floors, minibars, safes, TVs, and furnished balconies or patios with garden or ocean views. Some of the wood and rattan furniture shows wear, but bright tropical fabrics and carved headboards remain in place. The large marble baths offer hair dryers, robes, kimonos and mildew. The villas — some beachside — are stunning. Almost house-size, many have downstairs sitting rooms and superb bedrooms above. All are handsomely dressed with plenty of fine furnishings, art, antiques, and either cold whirlpools or private or semi-private pools in luxurious courtyards. Room service is always available. The genteel, understated staff works hard to please. Geared toward Japanese guests, this hotel ranks well below the nearby Legian and Oberoi. 137 rooms. $200-$750. Mr Ove Sandstrom mgr. (C-10)

Cheers Carl, simply dripping with description.

Strange that you mention Dhyana Pura is in Legian, almost everyone I know calls it Seminyak and the sign out front a while ago said Royal Seminyak. I will take your word for it though.

As I mentioned this place will be very nice once the villas are re done and the things for me is the spacious walkways and tranquil feeling.

Thanks again.
