Today was the start of the skate board competition on the beach at Pantai Kuta.
There were plenty of tourists and locals on hand to support this event and the sponsors have also out in a lot of effort setting up a wooden deck with ramps on the beach.
I rode up and there was quite a little crowd gathered, peering over the wall an clustered around the edge of the arena. Young Balinese kids and mixed race kids took turns at performing tricks to the background rock music.
I must say the Balinese always put on a good show when it comes to flags. These and the location were he highlights for me, the skateboarding being the least impressive thing.
I think the skaters needed bigger take off ramps and maybe some sharp objects embedded in the floor to give them a bit more encouragement to get air and land without falling.
I met up with traveller Jess from Eugene Oregon this evening and bought a couple of FREE BEERS at Pub Bagus. We rode over to Bamboo Corner on Poppies I for some makan, him getting the chicken goreng, me the sweet and sour fish. Both good for about 6,000- 8,000rp.
Jess is taking a semester off from his history degree and exploring SE Asia. He’s already been to Thailand and Malaysia as well as Kalimantan and Surabaya before arriving in Bali yesterday. He’s got 10 days here and will rent a motorbike to check out the island.
It was funny as I’m from London, but spent 7 years in Eugene and we were reminising about local hotspots. I informed Jess that you get a keg of microbrew beer from the High St Brewery for $65 ( a deal if ever there was one!) which he was not aware of.
You see travel does broaden the mind.

I THINK THE KUTA KARNIVAL WAS GREAT I THINK YOU SHOULD DO THAT MORE OFTEN.
BECAUSE I LIKE THINGS THAT JOIN PEOPLE TOGETHER. EVERY ONE WAS HAVING FUN AND IT WAS COOL. AND I LIKE TO SEE PEOPLE BE HAPPY AND THE BEST THINK COZ IM STILL A TENAGER IS WHEN IT WAS THE SKATIN.. THAT WAS THE BEST.. PLZ DO IT AGAIN. I ENJOYED IT AND ALL MY FRIENDS LOVE IT.
