Kuningan ceremony at Tanah Lot Bali-part II

Balinese temples really come alive during ceremonies, with people, gamelan music and the smell of satay outside. I had no intention of intruding on the people ceremony and so stayed well away from the temple entrance. People however seemed glad to see me and often said hello. In return I said "Selamat hari raya." (have a good big day). Some Balinese people have gone to their villages around Bali, taking a couple of days off form work in Kuta. One of the waitresses in Cafe Seminyak told me that if they took 2 days off for Galungan they could not take 2 off for Kuningan. After snapping some photos outside Pura Luhur Pakendungan I walked about 300 meters down the road to another smaller temple, Pura Beji Luhur Pakendungan.

Whereas the first temple had a candi bentar, the huge split gate, that marks the entrance to the outer or middle courtyard of many temples, this second temple seemed to have just on inner courtyard, with offerings laid out on tables outside. I saw priests administering offerings to the faithful, seated on the stone floor inside. Temperatures were high today and the sun seems so powerful right now. I came plastered in sun block, wearing long pants, shoes, long sleeves and a hat. After spending a total of less than an hour in Tanah Lot I took off for Seminyak. The largest Kuningan celebration was in Serangan, off of the Bypass to Sanur. In years past you could drive across the causeway but this year they changed the rules apparently. Checking out a Balinese temple ceremony is a great experience and often you will be allowed to enter the temple providing you are wearing a sarong and sash.
