Attaching the GPS unit to my mirror was a genius idea today. I didn’t have a base map to work off of, so my GPS drew a spiders track, detailing my trail. I set the unit to ‘compass’ and was able to steer a route working off of my mental map. When it was time to come home I set the ‘Go To’ to the location of my house and the pointer magically knew where it was.
Arriving home in mid afternoon and wanting the names of the villages I passed through, I simply looked at the Track Log and compared the shape to my Periplus map. Its amazing how accurate the GPS is and it accounted for all the turns I made. Marking a couple of places such as the swimming hole, I could spot the villages. GPS’s are waterproof too, so the rainy weather won’t stop you using one.

I rode my motorbike to Negara one afternoon. It was quite a long ride, but the scenery along the way was nice. Putu, I understand they have bull races in Negara. Any idea when those take place?
Hi phrough,
The races are usually held in the dry season on the second and third Sundays in September and October, except for the Bupati’s Cup which take place in August, on the Sunday before Indonesian Independence Day in the town square in Negara. The even more prestigious Governor’s Cup takes place on a Sunday in October. The dates and places are different each year, so get current information from Negara’s Department of Tourism on Jl. Setia Budhi, behind kantor bupati.
Hi nick thanks for the reply
When i was in Negara Last October i was told by my cussons it is on every sunday ( what they called train/exercise the bull every week ) as my cusson has two pairs of the bull ( Mekepung)i can always email my brother in Negara to find out for you nick.it is a long ride from Kuta to Negara thats way my Kids hates it every time we go to Bali once we get to Negara they don’ t want to go back to Kuta because they know how long it will take and the traffic Gilimanuk >Denpasar is Crazy
Nick, is it possible for you to post the way points in a format that is usable so that we can upload into our own gps?
Chris, My GPS does not have way for me to download the data to a computer. I can save the route and e-travel it myself, but its hard to commincate it to anyone else.
