Garuda: Indonesia's national carrier

Garuda stopped flying to europe last year. They first stopped flying to Frankfurt and London (2003) and last year they stopped flying to Amsterdam.

Garuda is a great airline and one which I use constantly. Sure, I’ve tried Paradise Air and found it shit cos you feel as though you are in a sardine can, and, the food(?) is a little left to be desired. Sempati were fabulous in their heyday albeit once owned by Tin Can Tommy!.

I was astounded that once Suharto went down just how freedom this created in the business world. By that I mean the number of domestic airline operators plying the routes in Indonesia. Out of these, probably Lion Air is the cheapest and best in my opnion.

All the roads from and to GoldCoast were under water! It became dark and in front of our AVIS-car was a big pool around 30 meters length. The Police on Hookers-street (the only possible way to go to Brisbane-Airport) directed the cars to go back. After estimating the situation; Pool is not to deep, 4 people with trunks makes the car heavy, and drive not too fast but also not too slow, I command: “Keep legs up!, for there will be water inside.”

At 19.00 o’clock we booked a room in Formule1 (near Brisbane-airport), that wasn’t really exciting, 4 persons in a lodge of 3×5mtr. without restaurant.
The next morning our flight had 4 hours delay and during the flight we had a lot of drunken Australian.

Garuda gave them all the alcohol they asked for, without any discourage, and when it went out of hand, they allowed the mass to take it themselve out of the food-containers….. Unbelievable we did not see this before! Drunken Aussies behind us were so noisy and brutal, that it was impossible to relax or sleep, and when one of them dropped some food in Linda’s neck, I exploded and told them that their rude behavior had to stop!. That worked for 15 minutes, so what now? for you can’t debate with intoxicated people, it will always end in fighting. So I went to the responsible Steward for other seats. It helped a bit, but the next 3 hours were unpleasant and I had to keep my head cool. My God what were we happy to be back in Bali again.

We hope that our next visit to our Family in Australia will be a nice and smooth one.

BTW - we always fly Garuda and that is going well

I just wish they where still flying Europe, cause now I’ll be scaling in Singapore for 5 ½ hours! I just have no luck whatsoever!
