  • Tolong tanpa gula

You might also pass one of the local drink carts in areas not on the main drag. These carts fill a plastic bag with sugared water and add jelly pieces and all kinds of other stuff that is no good for you. This is called Es campur (mixed ice).

Restaurants and warungs usually add sugar and ice to whatever juice you ask for. I ask them to leave out the sugar, Saya sudah manis, I say (I am already sweet). The ice is generally safe to drink. Restaurants have figured out its not good business to poison your customers.

A very popular tourist drink is the arak madu (arak, water, honey, lime) and will cost anywhere from several thousand rupiah in a warung to 20,000rp in a place like Santa Fe. Prices for western style mixed drinks are around 40,000-50,000rp in the trendy party scene.
