Departures at Ngurah Rai airport Bali.

Ngurah Rai airport is where you fly in and out of coming to Bali. Its serves international and domestic traffic. Often referred to as Denpasar, the airport is actually located in Tuban, just south of Kuta. Arriving at the airport to leave, the first building you will come to on your left will be the Domestic Terminal, arrivals and departures. This is followed on the same side by the International Terminal, arrivals and departures. Outside the building are many food and drink shops. For decent Indonesian food go to the place outside International Arrivals close to McDonalds. All the flight crews go here.

Checking in for International Departures is very easy and involves your bags being x-rayed and you walking through the standard metal detector set up. This is followed by baggage check in which tends to go fast I find. Heading upstairs you will pay 100,000rp departure tax and then pass through immigration. The whole process from walking in the front door usually takes me around 15 minutes.

If you have lost your departure tag in your passport give the immigration guy 20,000rp, he will be happy with that. Passing though immigration you will come to a shopping area that extends down a long corridor. There is a Japanese restaurant and souvenir shops. There is also a massage place and a room for Muslim travelers to pray.

G’Day Nick,

Just love arriving there but hate seeing the place when I have to go!.

Folks,

The new Tampertell tags are now available at all Downtown duty free shops. I picked some up and they are good. AUD$10 buys you 20 tags.

Although the bullshit instructions on the packet tell them to put the tag where you would normally put your lock, I wouldn’t advise this.

I tested one out this morning. I locked my bag, then inserted the long tag-end through the loop on the lock and then continued passing the tag-end underneath the 2 zip connectors. Then I tied the tag. Damn strong!.

The tags are individually numbered and for what reason I don’t know. Anyway, I had to use my very sharp Swiss Army knife to actually cut the tag. Yes, it was difficult to cut it!.

They are probably numbered so you can check that no one has cut your tag off, tampered with your contents and then put another tag on.

Are you the full quid?

I have seen these Tags and they are designed to put through your lock holes so if the tag is broken, you will know if someone has been in your luggage.

It was also good to see that you passed the tag through the loop on the lock, that was a very clever move, a bit like tying your shoelace without your foot in the shoe.

By the way they have a serial number on them for you to record, so that if a baggage handler or smuggler has opened your bags then resealed them with another tag you will know this has been done by checking the serial numbers when you pick up your luggage!

And last of all you dont need a swiss army knife to open them thay have a quick release on them which you would of seen on the so called “bullshit instructions”.

Talk about won the lottery and lost the ticket!

Hi Jonno69,

Yes, I did read the bullshit instructions, and, I was aware of the quick release. The reason for cutting it with the knife was to see how hard it was to cut.
Somehow I don’t think the handlers at the airports in Indo have the bullshit instructions on-hand and will not realise there is a quick release on the tabs.
