A close look at a penjor in Seminyak Bali

Any visitor to Bali during Galungan will notice the tall curving bamboo poles that line every street and alley.

As I mentioned before these are called penjors. The arch represents Gunung Agung, the big volcano is east Bali. The body is the river that flows from the mountains to the sea, and along its route are the things of the harvest, which are tied to the pole. The foot of the pole is a temporary shrine. Riding around you will locals preparing this in the days before Galungan.

One more pic. I snapped this cute kid on my way to the beach. Love that hat.

To the Lady asking about milk in Bali!
I could not reply, but there is definately UHT milk available in Bali, you can buy it flavoured or non flavoured, you can get little packs with straws or cartons!

You will not have a problem finding it, there is some imported from NZ, I also think from Holland too.. plus other varieties…

Nick…the reason I asked you what make of camera you are using is because once I asked a guy [who was showing me his fotos], what ‘kind’ of camera he was using. His reply: “One that takes fotos”

I borrowed a Sony Coolpix but I prefer my last camera the Canon A60 as I know all the controls.

G’Day Nick,

Yeah, I found the Canon A70 that I am using is suitable, and thanks to your tips, my fotos are getting better and better.
