Ika and I take a trip to Denpasar every month to visit Dr. Adam Zakaria, a Muslim doctor. Last night we took a taxi from my house in Seminyak to the office located on Jl. Diponegoro that takes about 25 minutes.
Arriving at 10pm and waiting with the other couples for an hour we were shown in. Dr. Zakaria has a new ultra-sound machine made by General Electric that he showed to me. Ika laid on the bed and the nurse applied gel to her abdomen. Dr. Zakaria moved a hand-held scanner slowly over it and we could see baby parts moving around inside. At the time of watching the baby had its arms crossed and the size now meant we could not see the whole thing in 1 picture. We have a booklet called a Buku Kontrol with the progress charted.
Dr. Zakaria told us the heart was beating at 140 per minute (sounds like me when my internet connection does not work) and looks good. Ika is due in the 1st week of July and the standard weight for an Indonesian baby now should be 1.4kgs. Our little bugger is weighing in at 1.75kgs so I guess at that nasi bunkus I buy for Ika is working.
We were recommended to buy to vitamins and calcium. Ika already takes a special milk formula (to give advantage to babys brain, as she says ) so we will keep on with that.

G’Day Nick,
Poor choice of word mate! (He, he…!).
Hi Tracey,
Are you sure it’s not twins?. Still, 20 weeks eh. I look forward to seeing bubs in November. Any dates yet on when you’l be there?
Barrie, We arrive on the 26th Nov & leave on the 12th Dec… A short trip due to Dede’s work etc…
Hope you will be around then, you too Angie!!!
I know you will be Nick!
Nope, still only 1 has been seen on the scans!!!!
Nick make sure that the vitamins have folic acid (about 1 mg) in them, it is important for brain & spinal cord development. Ensuring adequate folic acid in the mom’s diet can prevent a certain group of birth defects of the brain & spinal cord.
Thanks Cathleen
Hi Nick, my name is Hannah, and I am studying surf science at cornwall college. I have been to Bali many times and I love the place!! Just wondering if you could help me out. Im doing a paper on water microbiology and wondered if you knew of any yucky little microbe that could put you at risk whilst surfing in the water there.
I’d be really greatful if you could shed any info my way.
Cheers Han
