Saturday at 2pm my mother in law, who I refer to as Ibu (mother) took off for Semarang in Central Java. Ibu has been staying at our house for about a month now and I know Ika enjoyed her company. Our ayam / ikan bakar last night was a farewell dinner and she went home loaded with small gifts. During the WebmasterWorld conference in Las Vegas, we were all given red and black nylon shopping bags, containing junk like pens, a brochure and other crap. Most people tossed theirs away, but I knew Indonesians would go nuts after the bags. I brought 5 home and sure enough they were snapped up. Other nick nacks that I have disgarded were also taken as gifts.
No worries, as long as someone can find a use for my old stuff they can have it. Over here when you are about to replace something people get very interested about your plans for the old one.
My mother in law runs a small shop out of the front of their living quarters. Obviously it doesn’t generate a tremendous amount of money otherwise she wouldn’t take off for a month. My Indonesian family love Jevon and I am lucky to have such great support.

I have been following his and indeed, your family’s progress since I found your site on the net after a trip to Bali in June.
Keep up the great work
Kind regards
Well, i can understand both comments here. It may look a little arrogant to put it the way Nick did. But i think it’s still better to give it away to someone who doesn’t looks at it as a bag of publicity crap but can use it, then to trow the bag away like those other people.
Eddie, get a life you plonker!
Nick
At least the ‘junks and nicknacks’ get recycled. Jevon looked adorable!
Now now Eddie dear,
It sounded as if you cannot handle his point of view and yet for every waking moment you read his blog. How sad is that?
Who is Eddie she’s reffering to?
G’day Nick,
Your mother-in-law is a super nice person and I was surprised that she looked younger than her age!.
