Running into Linda Garland in Ubud Bali

Today I went to Ubud for some adventure and one of the adventures was running into Linda Garland. I have heard about Linda but never met her. She is known as the ‘Bamboo Queen’ and has lived in Bali for 20 years.

When I met her today it was a hotel she runs in Nyuhkuning, to the south of Ubud. She didn’t offer any information about herself, but I knew from her card who she was. Linda has been a pioneer of Indonesian forestry, founding the Environmental Bamboo Foundation of Indonesia in an effort to stop the massive deforestation that occurs in this country by finding uses and ways to grow bamboo.

I think the inhabitants of Kuta, certainly over the last 20 years have heeded her call, with the amount of bamboo that was used in bars and hotels. For more information about bamboo as a resource check out this page from BambooTechnologies.com
