I am looking for new house and will take you all on a tour similar to the one we went on last January.
I contacted Made from Bali Land & Houses in Kerobokan, the place I rent from now. I told him my current yearly rent of 35 million rp is too much and I want to spend 20 million rp. Today he called me and we checked out 3 places. One was on Jl. Kerobokan close to Warung Batavia. It was a 2 storey Balinese type place with no A/C or fan…20 mil.
The next place was nest to the International school also on Jl. Kerobokan. This place was next to the paddies and part of it was still being constructed. No fan or A/C, 2 storey, 2 bedroom and decent looking…25 mil
Last place was in Umalas close to the new Café Moka ( already a plus). 1 storey, 3 bedroom, 3 bath, 1 room A/C, 1 room fan + living room…25 mil.
So you can get cheaper places, just depends on what you want. I don’t need a huge place but want value for money and at least a fan.
Made kept whispering in my ear ‘bagus, big rooms, nice house’. Good try Made but I’ll need to see many more before I’m going to slap my rp down.
Juliana just sms’d me. She’s in the village with Grace… snake is again on the menu.
I’m trying to look between the lines with all of these places, just because a place has 3 bedrooms doesn’t mean you can actually use them, especially with no fan or A/C. It takes a while over here before you get wise to how things actually play out and I think I’m wiser than 12 months ago.

Nick,
I want a fan in my room….!!!!
Nick,
What’s wrong with your old place? I thought it was the pimp palace. I enjoyed the proximity to the Spy Bar. Damn, wish I was back there.
San Diego’s been good. Might see you in a few months. Cheers
Josh
There are definitely places on the market and they are building new ones all the time. Air flow is very important here in Bali and some of the places haven’t been built with that in mind.
Tracey you’ve got plenty of fans in Bali.
Josh, the ‘SC’ never really lived up to its potential. I was always running around and coming home late. That place on Drupadi had great location, but it a bit over priced.
Nick,
you have to check the security in the surroundings. It’s should be the priority . Your place in Oberoi is very safe. Almost all the houses around it has private jaga (night watch).
Also your neighborhood. You don’t want to live next to a part time DJ, who throw private parties 2-3 times aweek at 4 in the morning…. hehehe.
Great advice ebong…thanks mate. We both appreciate your input. I’m sure Nick will take that into consideration.
Gday nick and crew
We have just returned to perth after 2 glorious weeks in bali. We just wanted to let you know that the review you gave The SwissBel Hotel Bali Aga was pretty well spot on…we found the rooms, surroundings and staff all very welcoming. Sure its not the cheapest place in bali..but i found it so much more relaxing than my last times staying in kuta. And to anyone contemplating going up to bali soon…dont mess around!…get on that plane!…i for one will be green with envy..
Seeya later you lucky mongrels.
Pj
p.s. - you can stick earthquakes though.. ![]()
I think that you should find a nice place for 20,000,000 rp. I guess adding a fan or even a a/c system could work it over the year. You could take it with you when you moved.
I did 3 trips to Bali over a 18 month period. Just couldn’t get enough of the place. Trully magical! I haven’t been back since the bombing and miss my time spent there. This is just a great way of keeping in touch until my next trip.
Hey Nick,
Happy New year amigo! I will also be in your shoes looking for a rental in the sanur or renon area this September. I will follow your house hunting advice. Did I tell you that Priska’s dad and brother have opened a Bengkel Listrik (Electronic repair shop) in sanur in the past month. They can fix old radios, TV’s, fridges, ect….. Their place is right off Jl. Bypass in sanur. Hang Loose, Mike
Thanks everyone for posting.
Looking for a new place is interesting and I’m sure I’ll check out many more places.
Mike great to hear from you ( Mike and I used to be neighbors in Santa Barbara CA back in 1987!!!).
Hope to see you out here.
The Umalas place sounds nice, but you don’t really need three bedrooms and trying to sleep in the one without a fan or A/C would be for whoever draws the short straw.
Hope something good comes up this week.
